Wedding Portraits at
The Inn at the Mission
For couples looking for wedding photography in San Juan Capistrano, The Inn at the Mission gives us a lot to work with. Soft light, hard light, arches, stairways, textured walls and small areas around the property that all photograph differently.
That is what I like about it. We can make one set of portraits feel soft and romantic, then walk twenty feet and create something completely different.
Bridal Portraits in San Juan Capistrano
This place is especially good for bridal portraits.
The lighter walls bounce a lot of soft light back into the face and dress, which helps keep everything clean without making it feel flat.
And when the light gets harsh, I use that too.
Some of my favorite images here were made in bright midday light with heavy backlight and blown highlights.
Sometimes the rules are just suggestions.
Q&A
Have you photographed at The Inn at the Mission before?
Yes. I have photographed multiple couples here and already know a lot of the spots that work well. I still look for something different every time I shoot here.
What is the best time for portraits at The Inn at the Mission?
Because of the design and architecture at The Inn at the Mission, we can use different parts of the property at different times of day. Mid-afternoon gives us a lot of beautiful bounced light off the stucco walls, and later in the day we get that warm golden-hour light.
Can we take photos on the Mission San Juan Capistrano grounds?
Yes. My insurance is already on file with the Mission, so setting up a photography reservation is pretty easy. We just want to make the reservation early enough to make sure the date and time we want are available.
Can we take photos around San Juan Capistrano too?
Absolutely. San Juan Capistrano gives us a lot of different looks, with historic buildings, textured walls and light bouncing in different directions throughout the day. I’ve been shooting in San Juan Capistrano for more than 20 years, so I know where the light is and when to use it.
